Benefits of Negative Air Ions on specific diseases
NAIs stimulate the secretion of gluco-corticoid hormones in the suprarenal glands, like cortisone, which protects our body against allergies and asthma (Livanova & al, 1999b).
NAIs also reduce the serotonin concentration in the blood, which has also an anti-allergy effect.
Dr Boulatov (1975) has the most experience with asthmatic persons and has cured more than 11.000 patients. He recommends 2 to 3 cures of 30 daily treatments of 10’ with NAI concentrations as high as 2x106 ions/cm3. He reports that his patients said with “monotonous regularity” that the therapy has worked.
In 1966, Dr Palti performed in a hospital in Jerusalem a study involving 38 asthmatic babies between the ages of 2 to 12 months. The babies were separated in 2 groups. One group was treated with NAIs generating ioniser while the second was administered the standard drug treatment. The babies in the first group treated with air ioniser were cured much more quickly than those in the 2d group. The babies in the 1st group were also found to be less prone to rebound attacks. (Palti, 1966).
Brazilian hospitals now commonly use negative ion generators to treat breathing problems (Soyka, 1985). Experiences in American and British hospitals have concluded that more than 60% of patients suffering from hay fever or bronchial asthma have experienced partial or total relief (Cramer, 1996).
Arthrosis is a degenerative alteration of the articulation coating tissues. In case of inflammation, it is called arthritis. Oxygen therapies have a regenerative effect on these tissues (Markus, 1998). Figurovsky showed that 80% of arthrosis crisis were reduced by negative ionisation (reported in Robert, 1991).
Infection is the leading cause of death in thermal burn injuries. NAIs at high concentration have the property to kill microorganisms.
Kornblueh (1968) treated 138 burn victims at Northeastern General hospital in Philadelphia with NAIs. He concluded that NAIs helps to reduce pain and to fasten skin cicatrisation, mainly due to their ability to prevent micro-organism infection.
Makela (1978) made several studies in a Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at Helsinki University Central Hospital, where microbial air contamination is high. Different strains of Staphylococcus Aureus had been found on the patient skins. Under ionisation, their presence in the air and on the patient skin drastically dropped.
In our body, cells regularly become cancerous but our immune system, if not depressed, is able to kill them by producing anti-cancer drugs. But increasing the oxygen concentration in the body and overexpressing the activity of the enzyme “superoxide dismutase” play also an important role.
Increase of blood oxygen concentration and pH
“Harmful low-oxygen environments within the body are known to be breeding grounds for the development of diseases, particularly cancer, so finding ways to bring oxygen to those parts of the body in order to begin healing is a logical direction. Cancer specialists know that cancer cells grow in low oxygen environments and can be destroyed by the application of pure oxygen” (Dr Yutsis, p47).
Already in 1944, Dr Otto Warburg, twice Nobel Price winner, found that cancer cells produced lactate from glucose in the presence of oxygen, whereas normal cells only produced lactate from glucose in the absence of oxygen. He concluded the “the prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the normal oxygen respiration of the body cells by an anaerobic cell respiration”. According to Dr Kizer, a biochemist and physicist at Gungnir Research in Porsmith, what is at least sure is that “high oxygen tensions are lethal to cancer tissue, 95% being very toxic, where as in general, normal tissues were not armed by high oxygen tensions”.
Cancer patient often have a poor blood oxygenation. A positive action of NAIs on cancer cells is their ability to increase the oxygen level in the blood and to improve oxygen transport through the tiniest capillaries. Air ions can also increase the blood alkalinity, that has also been reported to prevent tumor growth.
Cancer treatment, like radiation, causes tissue hypoxia or oxygen depletion. To come back to life, the cells need increased oxygen. Even if the rays are targeted to a specific area, the entire body feels its effect and the immune system becomes less efficient. Consequently, during treatment, good body oxygenation is important (Dr Yutsis, 2003).
In 2001, Oberley published a review called “ Anticancer Therapy by overexpression of superoxide dismutase (SOD)”.
SOD is the first enzyme of our anti-oxidant defence system. There are 3 different SOD that can be found in 3 different locations (Takada & al, 2002):
Cancerous cells are always low in MnSOD and CAT activity, and usually low in CuZnSOD (Oberley, 2001).

Overexpression of SOD in healthy cells (Takada, 2002).:
Overexpression of SOD in cancerous cells increases the H2O2 concentration and consequently inhibits tumor growth (Takada, 2002). This has been observed until now on 13 different tumor types in vitro and in vivo (Oberley, 2001). This confirms that CAT and GSH enzymes are not actively working.
Kosenko & al (1997) and Kondrashova et al (2000a&b) observed that NAIs, mostly superoxide, activates the SOD, which could help to produce H2O2 in cancer cells.
Pani & al (2004) and Oberley (2001) concluded that oxygen radicals have a major role in the natural defence against the propagation of cancer cells and mediate the beneficial cytotoxic effect of both the chemo- and radio-therapy.
Some migraine headaches originate when an overload of serotonin causes the diameter of blood vessels leading to the brain to dilate, and get wider in the brain. Pr Sicureti proved that migraine suffering people have a high sensibility to serotonin (Robert, 1991). NAIs help to reduce the serotonin concentration in the blood.
Prof. Hawkins (1978), at the University of Surrey in England, performed a 4 years study in offices of an insurance company. In presence of ionisers in the air conditioning, migraine and nausea problems drastically dropped. He found out that the best conditions are:
Serotonin release in the blood increases pain sensation. NAIs helps to reduce the serotonin concentration in the blood (Krueger, 1976). Jonassen (webpage) reports that cancer patients, being in severe pain and requiring regular & strong analgesia, required less analgesia and their chronic wounds showed accelerated healing. This phenomenon has also been observed on animals (Jaskowski et al, 1986).
Dr Robert (1991) obtained excellent results with negative ions on psoriasis and eczema, if they are applied at a 10cm distance from the skin. Dermatosis caused by a psychological factor can also be cured by negative ions. Reduction of hair loss has also been reported.
Soft tissues deprived of oxygen promote the growth of some virulent micro-organisms like Clostridium perfringens and Staphylococcus aureus, that thrives in low oxygen environments. NAIs pulsed on the wound will help to kill these micro-organisms and to oxygenize those tissues
PAIs increase the gastric acidity and consequently encourage the apparition of stomach ulcers and digestive bleedings. Deleanu (1991) treated ulcer with negative ions and obtains 57% durable healing with disappearance of painful crisis, 33% improvement and only 10% failure.
