Odour Emissions at T > 40C and RH < 85%

At high T, emissions may contain various contaminants:

  • oily aerosols and sticky particles
  • heavy volatile molecules, like oil, that build aerosol at ambient temperature.
  • volatile molecules that are still volatile at ambient temperature  and that are often difficult to solubilize in water.

If the water content is low, 2 strategies are possible:

 

1. Oxidation of the odorous contaminants by injecting oxygen radicals in bypass

2. T reduction below 40C via heat exchangers and treatment via more classical systems

1. AQC Concept ET-O-HTLH-11: Photo-Oxidation in bypass

The Photo-Oxidation in Bypass system injects oxygen radicals, produced by UV-C lamps,  in the emission, still at a temperature that gives high abatement yields.

 

 

 

 

 

 Advantages:

  •  low investment & working costs for high flow rate emissions (compared to incinerator)
  •  no chemical addition
  •  little waste water (condensates from the cyclone)

 Restrictions:

  •  cannot be used if the emission contains dust or oil aerosol
  •  VOC content must be lower than 50mg/m3

2. AQC Concept ET-O-HTLH-21: Cyclonic Heat Exchanger + Activated Carbon

The Cyclonic Heat Exchanger cools the emission below 40C, removing the solid & liquid particles.

 

The Activated Carbon cassettes on its downstream side remove the resting volatile odours.

This concept is interesting if the VOC concentration after the cyclone is lower than 20mg/m3

 

 

 Advantages:

  • excellent condensation and consequently removal of aerosol fraction
  • high odour abatement

 Restrictions:

  •  VOC content after the cyclone must be lower than 20mg/m3; if higher, the next concept is recommended
  •  aerosol fraction may not be oil haze (particle size < 0.5m)

 Utilities:

  • cooling capacity: water, chilled water, freon,... (freon group can be supplied with the installation for flow < 2500m3/h)

3. AQC Concept ET-O-HTLH-22: Cyclonic Heat Exchanger + Photo-Oxidation

The Photo-Oxidation on its downstream side remove via the oxidation power of UV-C lamps  the residual volatile odorous fraction; this concept is interesting if the VOC concentration after the cyclone is higher than 20mg/m3

 

 Advantages:

  • excellent condensation and consequently removal of aerosol fraction
  • high odour abatement

 Restrictions:

  •  aerosol fraction may not be oil haze (particle size < 0.5m)

 Utilities:

  • cooling capacity: water, chilled water, freon,... (freon group can be supplied with the installation for flow < 2500m3/h)

4. AQC Concept ET-O-HTLH-23: Cyclonic Heat Exchanger + Electrofiltration

The Cyclonic Heat Exchanger cools the emission below 40C, removing the solid & liquid particles and building oil aerosol.

 

The Electrofilter, as 2d step, removes the oil aerosols

 

If residual volatile odours still need to be removed after the electrofilter, a polishing filter can be use as 3d step, like a photo-oxidation, photo-oxidation in bypass (see picture) or an activated carbon

 

 Advantages:

  • excellent condensation and consequently removal of aerosol fraction
  • high odour abatement

 Utilities:

  • cooling capacity: water, chilled water, freon,... (freon group can be supplied with the installation for flow < 2500m3/h)

5. AQC Concept ET-O-HTLH-24: Washer + Electrofilter

This concept is particularily recommended for complex emissions containing sticky contaminants, like smoke.

 

The Washer cools the emission below 40C. It promotes the building of aerosol and removes already a part of the contaminants.

 

The Column Electrofilter on its downstream side remove the resting aerosols; this concept is This concept is interesting for smokehouses for instance.

 

 Advantages:

  •  condensation of heavy volatile fraction and absorption of soluble volatile fraction
  •  high odour abatement
  •  low working costs
